How to crochet a mini Snoopy keychain / charm ˚.🎀༘⋆

Materials 

  • acrylic yarn (sport)(5 ply) in white, black and pink
  • 3 mm hook
  • 1 plastic eye
  • sewing needle
  • scissors
  • stitch markers
  • glue (***note: this is optional, only if you don’t want to sew)


Abbreviations 

  • Magic ring - MR
  • Chain - ch
  • Single crochet - sc
  • Half double crochet - hdc
  • Double crochet - dc
  • Triple crochet - tc
  • Slip stitch - slpst 
  • Increase - inc
  • Decrease - dec 


Legs 

MR 

R1) 4 sc into the MR (4)

R2) 1 inc, 1 sc (6)

*slpst in the next stitch, fasten off (pull and cut the yarn)

Repeat the same steps to make a 2nd leg but DO NOT finish off


Body 

Keep the 2nd leg in your hook, then grab the 1st leg and insert your hook in any stitch of the 1st leg, now continue following the pattern. (watch the tutorial for reference)

R3) 6 sc in each leg (12) (***note: this way we’re attaching both legs)

R4) 1 sc, 1 inc (18)

R5 - 7) 18 sc (18) 

R8) 1 sc, 1 dec (12)

Stuff

R9) 6 dec (6) 

*slpst in the next stitch, fasten off (pull and cut the yarn, leave a long tail to sew)


To close the body (optional)(watch the tutorial for reference)

***note 1: this step is optional, you can skip it and then sew the body to the head normally.

***note 2: if you follow this step at the end you’ll have the option to sew the body to the head or just paste it with glue :)

  1. Insert the left yarn in the needle and see that you have 6 stitches left. You will pass through just the front loop of all these stitches with the needle. 
  2. When you finish, pull the yarn and the circle will close. 
  3. Finally just hide the yarn through the body and cut the excess.


Head

MR

R1) 8 sc into the MR (8)

R2) 8 inc (16)

R3 - 4) 16 sc (16)

R5) 6 sc, 4 inc, 6 sc (20)

R6) 7 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc)x3, 7 sc (23)

R7 - 8) 23 sc

R9) (4 sc, 1 dec)x3, 5 sc (20)

R10) 3 sc, 1 dec (16)

R11) 2 sc, 1 dec (12)

R12) 1 sc, 1 dec (8)

  1. Insert the left yarn in the needle and see that you have 8 stitches left. You will pass through just the front loop of all these stitches with the needle. 
  2. When you finish, pull the yarn and the circle will close.

Ears

R7) 7 sc, 1 slpst (8)

*fasten off (pull and cut the yarn, leave a long tail to sew)


To close the ear (watch the tutorial for reference)

  1. Insert the left yarn in the needle.
  2. Put the 2 opposite sides of the ear together, and with the needle pass through the top stitches of both opposite sides to sew and attach them. 
  3. Fasten off (ch 1, pull and cut your yarn, leave a long tail to sew to the head.
Repeat the same steps to make a 2nd ear

Arms

MR

R1) 4 sc into MR (4)

R2) 1 sc, 1 inc (6)

R3) 4 sc, 1 dec (5)

*slpst in the next stitch, fasten off (pull and cut the yarn, leave a long tail to sew)


To close the arm (watch the tutorial for reference)

  1. Insert the left yarn in the needle.
  2. Put the 2 opposite sides of the arm together, and with the needle pass through the top stitches of both opposite sides to sew and attach them. 
  3. Fasten off (ch 1, pull and cut your yarn, leave a long tail to sew to the body
Repeat the same steps to make a 2nd arm

Assemble

Please watch the tutorial for reference :)

***Note: When you finish sewing any piece, hide the excess of yarn through the body and then just cut it.

  • Head and body: sew the body to the head. Or just paste the head to the body with glue.
  • Arms: sew them 1 round under the head, between round 2 and 3, and at the same height of the legs
  • Ears: sew them between round 8 and 9, one in each side, and at the same height of the arms and legs
  • Nose: insert the plastic eye in the center of the front of the head, or put it in the little space of the MR


Sewing the eyes 

Embroider the eyes with black yarn, between round 6 and 5 of the head. Make it in a diagonal shape (watch the tutorial for reference)

  • insert your needle in round 6, then go a bit up and pass through round 5, hide and cut the excess of yarn, finally repeat the same process for the 2nd eye at the other side of the head.


Bow 

  1. slip knot, 15 ch
  2. Skip the 1st ch, and make: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 slpst, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 2 sc in the last ch
  3. now repeat on the other side of the work (like a mirror)
  4. 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, slpst, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc in the last ch
  5. Fasten off (1 ch, cut the yarn and leave a long tail to sew)
  1. Now insert your yarn in the needle. Then grab 1 corner of the work and take it to the middle (where it is the slpst), pass the needle through the folded corner and then through the slpst.
  2. Return with the needle through that same stitch and fold the other corner to the middle and again pass through the folded corner and slpst.
  3. Next, with the left yarn start wrapping tightly the yarn around the center to shape the bow.
  4. Hide the left yarn through the back of the center and fasten off (cut the yarn)
  5.  Finally sew the bow to the head, or just paste it with glue.
