How to crochet cute Cat & Dog Bookmarks 📚 ˙⋆✮
Hi there! Let’s crochet these 2 cute cat and dog bookmarks. This is the written pattern for my youtube tutorial. Please watch it so you can follow the steps easily.

Materials
- acrylic yarn (sport)(5 ply) in white, brown, pink and blue
- 3 mm hook
- black thread
- sewing needle
- scissors
- stitch markers
- stuff
***Note: you can use any yarn or hook size you want, the only difference will be the size of your finished bookmarks.
Abbreviations
- Magic ring - MR
- Chain - ch
- Single crochet - sc
- Half double crochet - hdc
- Double crochet - dc
- Slip stitch - slpst
- Increase - inc
- Decrease - dec
Body (same for cat or dog)
MR
R1) 6 sc into the MR
R2) 6 inc (12)
R3) 3 sc, 1 inc (15)
R4) 1 inc, 4 sc (18)
R5) 18 sc
R6) (2 sc, 1 dec) x4, 2 sc (14)
R7) (1 dec, 1 sc) x4, 2 sc (9)
Stuff it
*slpst in the next stitch, fasten off (pull and cut the yarn leaving a long tail)
To close the body (please watch the tutorial for reference):
- Insert the left yarn in the needle and see that you have 9 stitches left. You have to pass through just the front loop of all these stitches with the needle.
- When you finish, pull the yarn and the circle will close.
- Finally just hide the yarn through the body and cut the excess.
Dog Ears and Face
Ears
- Slip knot, 7 sc
- Skip the 1st and 2nd ch, then make: 4 hdc, 1 slpst
- Fasten off (pull and cut the yarn)
- Repeat the same steps to make a 2nd ear.
- Sew them on the 2 sides of the body at the same height between round 3 and 4 (watch the tutorial for reference of where and how to sew)
Face
***note: watch the tutorial for a detailed guide of all the steps :)
- Embroider it with black thread and a needle
- From top to bottom of the body count 5 rounds, so in round 5 choose a stitch at the middle of the body
- Insert your needle in the left side of the middle stitch you chose
- Then pass the needle to the other side of the middle stitch and next pass 1 round under the middle stitch
- Pass through the little loop formed with the needle pointing downwards and pull the thread
- Insert the needle in the same last stitch you passed through and go the back passing through any stitch
- Now you have the nose / mouth, next we will make the eyes
- Insert your needle in the same last stitch you passed through at the back, count 1 stitch to the side of the nose (and above it), and pass through that stitch
- Then insert the needle 1 stitch above your current one and again go to the back
- Again insert the needle in the same last stitch you passed through at the back, count 1 stitch to the side of the nose (and above it) but now at the other side, and pass through
- Insert the needle 1 stitch above your current one and go to the back
- Fasten off (cut and hide the excess of threads through the body)
Cat Ears and Face
Ears
***note: watch the tutorial for a detailed guide of all the steps :)
- From top to bottom of the body count 4 rounds, so in round 4 insert your hook in a stitch of the side
- Now with the hook grab your yarn (make a loop and pull it through), and tighten it
- Make: 3 ch
- Skip the 1st ch and make: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 slpst to the side in round 3
- Fasten off (pull and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail) and hide the excess of yarn through the body with the needle
- Now repeat the same steps for the 2nd ear at the other side of the body BUT this time start from round 3 and finish in round 4
- So from top to bottom count 3 rounds, so in round 4 insert your hook in a stitch of the side
- With the hook grab your yarn and tighten it
- Make: 3 ch
- Skip the 1st ch and make: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 slpst to the side in round 4
- Fasten off (pull and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail) and hide the excess of yarn through the body with the needle
Face

- Embroider it with black thread and a needle
- From top to bottom of the body count 6 rounds, so in round 6 choose a stitch at the middle of the body
- Insert your needle in the right side of the middle stitch you chose
- Then pass the needle to the other side of the middle stitch and next pass 1 round above the middle stitch
- Pass through the little loop formed with the needle pointing upwards and pull the thread
- Insert the needle in the same last stitch you passed through and go the back passing through any stitch
- Now you have the nose / mouth, next we will make the eyes
- Insert your needle in the same last stitch you passed through at the back, count 2 stitches to the side of the nose (and above it), and pass through that stitch
- Then insert the needle 1 stitch above your current one and again go to the back
- Again insert the needle in the same last stitch you passed through at the back, count 2 stitches to the side of the nose (and above it) but now at the other side, and pass through
- Insert the needle 1 stitch above your current one and go to the back
- Fasten off (cut and hide the threads through the body)
Heart
- MR
- All into the MR: 2 ch, 3 dc, 3 hdc, 1 ch, 3 hdc, 3 dc, 2 ch, 1 slpst
- Pull the yarns and tighten it
- Fasten off (cut and hide the excess of yarn through the back of the work. You can weave or use any other method you like)
Little Fish
- Slip knot, 6 ch
- Skip the 1st and 2nd ch, then make: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. Repeat the same stitches on the other side of the work, like a mirror.
- Then make: 4 ch
- Skip the 1st and 2nd ch, then make: 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 slpst in the stitch you did the 4 ch
- Pull the yarn and tighten it
- Fasten off (cut and hide the excess of yarn through the back of the work. You can weave or use any other method you like)
String
- Slip knot
- Leave a long tail and then start to make chains, they have to be as long as the height of your book.
- When you finish, make 1 ch and slpst in the next ch
- Fasten off (pull and cut your yarn leaving a long tail)
Attaching the string to the dog and heart

Heart
- Grab the string and choose 1 side of it, then grab the long tail we leaved and insert the yarn into the needle
- Grab the heart and pass through 1 stitch of the top
- Return and pass through 1 ch of the string (the last one), then pass through the little circle that was formed and tight it
- Now we have make a knot, to secure it pass side to side with the needle through the stitch of the knot (various times to make sure it won't slip off)
- Fasten off (pull and cut your yarn)
Dog
- Repeat the same steps we did to attach the heart but this time with the other side of the string and now do it in a stitch of the bottom of the body of the dog
Attaching the string to the cat and little fish

Little Fish
- Grab the string and choose 1 side of it, then grab the long tail we leaved and insert the yarn into the needle
- Grab the little fish and pass through 1 stitch of the top
- Return and pass through 1 ch of the string (the last one), then pass through the little circle that was formed and tight it
- Now we have make a knot, to secure it pass side to side with the needle through the stitch of the knot (various times to make sure it won't slip off)
- Fasten off (pull and cut your yarn)
Cat
- Repeat the same steps we did to attach the little fish but this time with the other side of the string and now do it in a stitch of the bottom of the body of the cat.
